Running in the snow

Let me start by saying that I do not consider myself a runner…or a morning person. So when I made the decision last night that I would run home after taking the kids to school, I wasn’t quite sure if I would hold myself to it.  Lo and behold, I did…and it was fantastic.

The IDDLEFIT Running Belt packed for an early morning jog

I started by packing my running belt with my phone, headphones and keys…a pretty basic set up as I wasn’t planning on being out there too long (early January mornings in Berlin can get quite chilly).  To make a long story short we got to the school, I kissed the kids good-bye, and then it was on! As soon as I took my first few strides I knew it was going to be a nice run. Everything just felt right. No aches, no pains…just the fresh, clear morning air and a fresh sprinkling of snow under my feet.

The sun was just starting to rise so I got to experience that wonderful moment of the sky awakening. The street lights around the area are beautiful, gas lit lanterns which give a lovely, warm light. Combined with the blues of the sky and the white of the snow, it made for quite a cozy atmosphere. So cozy in fact, that I actually extended the run so the experience would last longer.

By the time I got home I was warm, energised and feeling great. After a few stomach exercises and some stretching, I was ready for my ‘work day’ to begin.

So while I still wouldn’t consider myself a runner (well, at least not the kind that is out there day after day pounding the pavement or standing in line to join marathons) I am definitely going to make a conscious effort to implement more running into my fitness routine. Who knows, one day I just might run a marathon….in the morning.
